we consider physicians our best advocates and forming partnerships is critical to helping families. Without this collaboration it would be more challenging to obtain donated boots to provide to families in need.

Q: Do you provide medical advice to families?

A: We do not provide any medical advice to families. We understand children often go through a difficult transition when starting bracing. Parents are encouraged to leave braces on, as recommended by their physicians, and to try to comfort their child. to promote a successful transition, we recommend the following activities to families: taking a walk outside, holding & cuddling the baby, using baby products such as swings or bouncers, singing, attaching toys to the bar, and playing with the baby when in braces.

Q: Do you recommend or promote specific providers to families?

A: We do not give recommendations to families looking to change medical providers, nor do we share opinions of providers or recommend that a patient should consider changing providers.

——

Q: Do you mentor or assist families who are struggling with bracing?

A: We understand that it can take a substantial amount of time from providers to answer questions and reassure new parents who are in the beginning stages of bracing. Parents can have difficulties putting on braces after clinic hours and that can be problematic. We are happy to help share tips and tricks with new parents to help them with getting the braces on, day or night. Over the years we’ve even used FaceTime as needed to help demonstrate how to put the braces on when there is confusion. In some cases, when there is redness or a sore developing, we will recommend that the parent apply molefoam to the inside of the boot for added protection. We always encourage the parent speak with their child’s physician prior to following any suggestions we make and before applying any products to the boots.
